Information about the course:

These units cover the entering and working in confined spaces in resources and infrastructure industries. It includes planning and preparing for entry of confined spaces, entry and working in confined spaces, exiting confined spaces and cleaning up.

These units also address the need for personnel to understand the permit system and to know how to work in accordance with a permit.

These units are also about testing the working atmosphere to determine if it is safe for the proposed work. Testing involves the use of electronic test apparatus.

These unit also covers competence associated with the operation and maintenance of breathing apparatus equipment in an irrespirable atmosphere.

These units also cover how to provide CPR to a casualty.

This course requires students to successfully complete all the 5 units of competency. Student must successfully meet all criteria for all units to be deemed competent. Please refer to course information located under tabs for each of the individual units for details regarding the units listed below:


Target Audience

The target group will be construction workers requiring training in safely working in confined space at worksites within:
  • Civil construction
  • Coal mining
  • Drilling
  • Extractive industries
  • Metalliferous mining
People who supervise but do not necessary enter confined spaces need to be aware of the risks and equipment checks that need to be in place to adequately protect people under their control.
 

Prerequisites:

  • Nil

Award Issue

Students who successfully complete this nationally recognised training will be awarded the statement of attainment:

  • MSMPER200 Work in accordance with an issued permit
  • RIIWHS202D Enter and work in confined spaces
  • MSMWHS216 Operate breathing apparatus
  • MSMWHS217 Gas test atmospheres
  • HLTAID001 Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation

Course Duration:

  • Full course: 21 hours face-to-face training
**There is no legislative requirement for refresher training for any units of competency from National Training Packages. It is suggested that refresher training for enter and work in confined spaces could be conducted every 3 years. This refresher training is at the discretion of the employer.
 

Pre course study options:

If there is pre-course study for the course, it is found in the student portal. Students must have access to a computer, phone, tablet etc. with access to the internet to complete the pre-course study online.
